Join Tatra Photography in the legendary Hortobágy National Park photographing the iconic White Tailed Sea Eagle. In this region up to 200 White-tailed Eagles are wintering which regularly visit the specially designed photography hides. We will spend three full days in the bird photography hides with our main focus on the the White-tailed Eagle, Common Buzzard & Rough-legged Buzzard, other species of bird you will also have the opportunity to photograph are Goshawk, Great White Egret, Spotted Woodpecker, Hawfinch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Hooded Crow, Rook, Magpie, Nuthatch, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Marsh Tit, Jay, Sparrowhawk & Hen Harrier.
Over the course of four days you will enjoy unique opportunities to capture spectacular images of Raptors, Owls and numerous more species in one of Europe’s top wildlife national parks. Guidance and tuition on how to get the best from each situation will be available throughout the workshop from our professional photographer Ben Hall so we’ll ensure you return home with images you’ll be proud of.
The hides will be entered before daylight around 06:30 and can only be left after dusk approx. 17:00. The eagles are very shy and once disturbed they can abandon the feeding station for days. Smoking is strictly forbidden in the hide because of the heating system. The use of the curtain in the morning is useful when direct sunlight hits the window.
The hides are 260 cm wide, 250 cm long and 125 cm high. The size of the photo-through window is 210 cm by 40 cm. Most of the hide is low in the ground with only 50cm emerging above the surface so it blends perfectly into the flat treeless landscape.
The hide has three chairs with back support, Curtains, Large mattress, Gas operated heating system to ensure a temperature of 15°C when it is -10°C outside. Shelves & ventilators to ensure the windows don’t steam up and a portable toilet.
The distance of the eagles from the hide will be regulated by placing out fish. The eagles are shy but they usually come within 10-25 metres of the hides. This photography tour offers you very diverse photographing opportunities so we would recommend that you bring along lenses from wide angle & 70-200mm for close up shots and 300mm- 500mm with extenders for the birds in flight.
In the Hotel Balmazujvaros we provide single rooms during the tour with no single supplement. The hotel is very comfortable with an excellent standard you would expect from a four stat hotel. The perfect place to relax after a long day out in the hides.
All rooms include en-suite facilities with TV, air-conditioning minibar and Internet access. The hotel also has an infrared sauna and Jacuzzi.
